Say hello to 2018, Mondo-style, as we celebrate the NINJA NEW YEAR by featuring a month’s-worth of hilariously messy martial arts flicks that will really give you a kick!
“The Ultimate American Fighting Machine is Back!” In this goofy, action-packed American Ninja sequel (the first of four, but who’s counting?) from our pals at Cannon Films, the dazed-looking blonde surfer dude/ninja warrior/Army sergeant Joe Armstrong (dazed-looking blonde surfer dude action star Michael Dudikoff) is back and ready to rumble in a story of supreme silliness.
“This is seriously goofy stuff, but hot damn if it isn’t a whole lot of deliriously entertaining fun.” – DVD Talk
With his muscle-bound, bandana-wearing, wise-cracking pal Sgt. Curtis Jackson (Steve James, I’m Gonna Git You Sucka) in tow, the American Ninja travels to a remote Caribbean island to investigate the disappearance of several marines, which leads him to The Lion, an overly-tanned super-criminal who has kidnapped a local scientist and mass-produced an army of genetically-engineered mutant ninja warriors who “know no pain and only feel one emotion: Hate!” Can the American Ninja find romance, pull out his magic ninja tricks AND stop the Lion’s army of kung-fu freaks from taking over the world? With three more sequels on the horizon, the answer is probably “Yes,” but it won’t ever get much funnier or more gratuitously bone-crunching that it does in American Ninja 2: The Confrontation! (Dir. by Sam Firstenberg, 1987, USA, 90 mins., Rated R)
