Don’t miss this stunning new 4K Restoration of the 1983 classic Nostalghia, from legendary filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky (Solaris; Stalker)!
Andrei Tarkovsky’s first film made outside of Russia is a hauntingly beautiful tale following Andrei (Oleg Yankovsky, The Mirror), a Russian expatriate and intellectual wandering wintery Italian landscapes while researching a new project and returning in memory to his homeland. He becomes obsessed with the Botticelli-like beauty of his translator, Eugenia (Domiziana Giordano, Interview with the Vampire), as well as with the apocalyptic ramblings of a self-destructive wanderer named Domenico (Erland Josephson, The Sacrifice), leading to an unforgettable finale described as “one of cinema’s great endings” by Village Voice film critic Alan Scherstuhl. Written by Tarkovsky with frequent Michelangelo Antonioni collaborator Tonino Guerra (L’Avventura) and newly restored in 4K from the original camera negative, Nostalghia is a mystical and mysterious collision of East and West from one of international cinema’s greatest artists. (Dir. by Andrei Tarkovsky, 1983, Russia/Italy, in Russian/Italian with English subtitles, 126 mins., Not Rated)
