The Arizona Short Film Festival 2023 is taking place at The Loft Cinema, screening 13 short films of different genres. After last year’s online edition, we are excited to be returning to the cinema halls with a varied programme full of fresh artistic takes.
Aiming to showcase emerging talents and address social issues of today, the ASFF23 selection runs the gamut of fiction, comedy and drama, documentary films, and animated films. Loyal to our vision to serve as a connecting platform, our selected indie shorts aim to spark conversations and give birth to new ideas.
As always, this year’s screening program showcases both upcoming and established filmmakers, including, among others, student films and newcomers’ creations. The documentary The Stolen de Kooning: Recovery and Redemption by the multi-awarded Christopher Sprinkle tells the story of Willem de Kooning’s Woman-Ochre painting, which was stolen from a museum in Arizona and discovered in an antique store in Silver City, New Mexico 30 years later torn, in need of extensive repairs.
In the animated short category, Thomas Smoor Isaksen’s A Dream of Hawaii, a tale about plastic pollution stretched to the extreme and human hope for survival in a desperate situation and David Shen Miller’s The Cocoon are bound to captivate your attention.
In the short film category competes the Made of Flesh (Florence Rochat, Séréna Robin) which comes to Arizona after the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, IndieCork (Ireland) and FIFF (France) and Sequin which has been to over 20 film festivals worldwide.
