It’s REVENGE OF THE SEQUELS Month at Mondo Mondays, featuring a bevy of ridiculous follow-ups you never knew you needed, but that you can’t live without! This time, it’s personal …
“They’re back …for everyone who believes in the beat!” Turbo, Ozone and Special K, the hottest breakers to ever rock a pair of neon parachute pants, hit the dance floor and pull out all the stops, pops and locks to save their local community center from greedy land developers in this legendarily bonkers sequel that stands tall as one of the most awesomely ‘80s movies ever made! Released to theaters by Cannon Films a mere seven months after the original Breakin’ became a surprise hit (which must have set some sort of “speedy sequel” record), the fly follow-up Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo reunites the stars of the first film, Adolfo “Shabba-Doo” Quinones, Michael “Boogaloo Shrimp” Chambers and Lucinda Dickey (star of Ninja 3: The Domination), and takes every available opportunity to upstage the original (and succeeds!) by throwing in more incredible breakdancing, hip hop music, gang war dance battles, out-of-place mimes (???), gravity-defying dancing on the ceiling, eye-searing ‘80s fashions, evil businessmen in suits battling neon kids from the streets, Ice-T as Radiotron Rapper, and, in the movie’s most inspired and insane set piece, the entire staff of a hospital breakdancing and moonwalking so hard their relentless beat actually revives the dead. Impossibly cheesy and irresistibly fun, sporting perhaps the greatest title in movie sequel history, Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo is a body-rockin’ pop-n’-lockin’ never stoppin’ musical megaride guaranteed to make you believe in the beat! (Dir. by Sam Firstenberg, 1984, USA, 95 mins., Rated PG)
