PLUS, sing-a-long with rockin’ Cher music videos before the movie – it’s “Cher-aoke!”

Celestial pop stars collide in an explosion of glitter, glamour and glitz when Cher and Christina Aguilera team up and belt it out in the camp musical extravaganza, Burlesque!

Burlesque is irresistible fun from its first minutes … It’s big, perfectly cast and entertaining in every way, but more than that it feels like a generous public event. See it with other people. See it with a crowd.” – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

When Ali (Aguilera, in her movie debut), a small-town gal with a big voice, leaves a troubled life in Iowa behind and follows her dreams to Los Angeles, she lands a job as a cocktail waitress at the Burlesque Lounge, a once-majestic theatre that currently houses an inspired musical revue combining the decadence and razzmatazz of Cabaret and Moulin Rouge, enacted by an undulating squadron of dancers and musicians decked out in wigs, false eyelashes and sequins. Presiding over the craziness is Tess, a grande dame who also performs occasionally and who could only be played by Cher in full-on diva mode. Naturally, the majorly-talented Ali vows to perform at Burlesque, but it’s not going to be easy. Enlisting the help of a savvy stage manager and a gender-bending host (while simultaneously dealing with a flirtatious bartender in guy-liner and a dreamy high-roller who wants to possess her), Ali attempts to make the leap from bar to stage, while Tess faces foreclosure on her beloved business.   Can Ali use her vocal super-powers to help restore the club to its former glory, and more importantly, will Cher’s show-stopping torch song, “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me,” literally raise the roof? One guess! Featuring over-the-top set design, flamboyant production numbers, a stellar supporting cast including Peter Gallagher, Kristen Bell, Stanley Tucci and Alan Cumming, this goofy and glitzy show-biz fable was directed by Steve Antin, best-known for his role as jerk-jock Troy in The Goonies! (Dir. by Steven Antin, 2010, USA, 119 mins., Rated PG-13)
