Susanna Fogel (co-writer of Booksmart) directs this provocative, genre-bending thriller about the perils of dating in the 21st Century, adapted from the acclaimed New Yorker short story by Kristen Roupenian. When Margot (Emilia Jones, CODA), a college sophomore working at an arthouse movie theater, goes on a date with the older Robert (Nicholas Braun, Succession), a frequent filmgoer, she finds that the real Robert doesn’t live up to the Robert she has been flirting with over texts. As her distrust and uncertainty mount, their relationship, and possibly their lives, begin to unravel. Cat Person is a darkly comic, razor-sharp exploration of the gender divide, the quagmire of navigating modern dating, and the dangerous projections we make in our minds about the person at the other end of our phones. Also starring Geraldine Viswanathan, Hope Davis and Isabella Rossellini. (Dir. by Susanna Fogel, 2023, USA, 118 mins., Not Rated)
