Get ready to do some hard time at JAILHOUSE SCHLOCK MONTH, featuring a life sentence of trashy prison flicks that’ll send you straight to the cinema slammer!
“3,000 volts couldn’t kill him. It just gave him a buzz.” After convicted killer Lyle Alzado is zapped in the electric chair for crimes against humanity (and cinema!), a low-budget movie crew visits the prison to make a trashy women-behind-bars movie, only to find that you can’t keep a fried monster down in this oddball slammer-centered slasher flick! In Destroyer, ‘80s NFL superstar Lyle Alzado (Ernest Goes to Camp) plays sadistic killer Ivan Moser, whose trip to the electric chair apparently only makes him angry, as he somehow manages to return 18 months later to the now-abandoned prison to terrorize the makers of a schlocky exploitation flick called Death House Dolls with his bulging biceps, manic facial expressions and a giant jackhammer. Who will survive the prison house massacre, and can anyone put Ivan back in the chair for good? Will it be spunky stuntwoman Susan Malone (Deborah Foreman, Valley Girl) or hipster screenwriter David Harris (Clayton Rohner, April Fool’s Day)? Perhaps the crazed director of Death House Dolls, Robert Edwards (Norman Bates himself, Anthony Perkins, in a hilariously twitchy performance) will save the day? A campy hoot with its fair share of actual thrills and chills, not to mention knowing references to the sleazy prison horror flick genre and an awful/amazing performance by Alzado as a musclebound Michael Myers, Destroyer will lock you up and throw away the key! (Dir. by Robert Kirk, 1988, USA, 94 mins., Rated R)
