“The real deal, a movie epic that pops your eyes out, piles on thrills and fun, and yet stays intimately attuned to character.” – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Acclaimed director Peter Jackson brought J.R.R. Tolkien’s timeless fantasy classic to the big screen in 2001 with the first film in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring, in which Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) and his Hobbit friends Sam (Sean Astin), Pippin (Billy Boyd) and Merry (Dominic Monaghan) are sent off in the direction of the terrifying volcanic Mount Doom, where they must dispose of the cursed One Ring passed down by Frodo’s cousin, Bilbo Baggins (Ian Holm).   The ring, possessing extraordinary destructive powers, was forged by Sauron ages ago and, should it fall into the wrong hands, could spell the end of civilization.  Getting rid of the ring is not easy.  In fact, it might even take two more epic films to accomplish the task … (Dir. by Peter Jackson, 2001, New Zealand/USA, in English/Sindarin, 178 mins., Rated PG-13)
