HALLOWEEN (1978) / 45th Anniversary 4K Restoration!
John Carpenter’s low-budget “babysitter in peril” fright flick masterfully exploited the Halloween holiday, terrified the world and became a landmark in modern horror. A young Jamie Lee Curtis shot to Scream Queen stardom as the innocent but resilient Laurie Strode, a high school girl made all too aware on one memorable Halloween night that evil stalks the shady streets and living rooms of her small Illinois town in the form of escaped psychopath Michael Myers, a hulking monster in a white mask who may indeed be “The Boogeyman.” Skillfully turning the tension screws via prowling Steadicam tracking shots, frighteningly deep shadows and an almost mythical sense of unstoppable evil, the remarkably assured young filmmaker transformed Halloween from a mere exploitation film into a horror classic for the ages. Co-starring P.J Soles and Nancy Loomis as Curtis’ terrorized pals and a riveting Donald Pleasence as the slightly demented Dr. Loomis, who’s hell bent on vanquishing the evil force that is Michael Myers. (Dir. by John Carpenter, 1978, USA, 91 mins., Rated R)

HALLOWEEN II (1981)
Michael Myers is back with a bloody vengeance in this terrifying “set on the same night” sequel to the original Halloween!  Penned and produced by Halloween creators John Carpenter and Debra Hill, Halloween II is a beautifully made slasher that thrives on tension, midnight mood and unhinged violence.   Picking up immediately where the first film left off, Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence) is still searching frantically through the streets of Haddonfield on Halloween night for his homicidal former patient, Michael Myers, who in turn is trying to find Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis, now a full-fledged movie star after a string of horror hits like Prom Night and Terror Train), who somehow managed to evade him in the first film.  After that first attack, Laurie has been taken to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, and the staff is about to discover that when The Boogeyman shows up after visiting hours, they’re bound to get a trick-or-treat scare they’ll never forget! Out of all the Halloween sequels, remakes and reboots, this one will make you most grateful that the franchise exists. (Dir. by Rick Rosenthal, 1981, USA, 92 mins., Rated R)
