In the hip Brooklyn neighborhood of Red Hook, single dad and record store owner Frank (Nick Offerman, Parks and Recreation) is preparing to send his hard-working teen daughter Sam (Kiersey Clemons, Dope) off to college, while also reluctantly accepting that his struggling business is failing and that he’ll soon be forced to close the store.
“Hearts Beat Loud is a feel-good spark of life, with endless charm. Nick Offerman and Kiersey Clemons are a delightful father and daughter duo.” – Ethan Anderton, Slash Film
Hoping to stay connected through their shared love of music, Frank urges Sam to turn their weekly “jam sesh” into an actual band – a father-daughter live act. Channeling Sam’s resistance into a band name, the duo finds We’re Not a Band’s debut song turning into an unexpected internet hit, and they soon embark on a journey of personal and musical discovery, using their songwriting efforts to work through their feelings about the life changes each of them faces. Also starring Toni Collette, Blythe Danner, Ted Danson and Sasha Lane, Hearts Beat Loud is a funny and moving look at growing up and moving on from writer/director Brett Haley (The Hero, I’ll See You in my Dreams). (Dir. by Brett Haley, 2018, USA, 97 mins., Rated PG-13)
