In the Americas Patronato San Xavier Fundraiser

Enjoy an exploration of our iconic Mission San Xavier is this Season 7 episode, followed by a panel discussion led by David Yetman, who serves on the Patronato Board of Directors.

Father Kino was an extraordinarily important European in the history of Arizona and Sonora. He was an explorer, geographer, humanitarian, and a very popular priest. David Yetman and his In the Americas team follow Father Kino’s path through already-established Jesuit sites in the land of the Opata people—from Batuc 80 miles east of Hermosillo through Cucurpe on the outer limit of the Jesuit system in 1685. Father Kino then journeyed into the Pimería, or land of the Tohono O’odham—unknown to the Jesuits at the time. His first stop was the town of San Ignacio and then on to the rich agricultural area where Mission San Xavier stands today. He had a small chapel built, but did not stay long, heading north and west when he continued his journey.

In the Americas with David Yetman is an HDTV series by multiple Emmy Award-winning producer and director Dan Duncan and internationally renowned writer, host and producer David Yetman. The series takes a fresh look at the lands that make up much of the Western Hemisphere, uncovering the geographic and cultural diversity of the Americas. This episode about Father Kino is one of 10 episodes in the new season.
