The wildly wicked Giallo-style thriller Knife + Heart is an ultra-stylish, blood-soaked cinematic adrenaline shot set in the world of gay porn in disco-era Paris.
“A gleefully trashy exploitation film with a heart of gold that deserves a place in the queer horror hall of fame!” – Trace Thurman, Bloody Disgusting
Summer, 1979. Anne (French pop star/actress Vanessa Paradis) produces cheap, third-rate gay porn movies. After her editor and lover Lois leaves her, she tries to win her back by shooting her most ambitious sex-stravaganza yet. But among all the drugs, debauchery and hardcore on-set action, a dark menace lurks: a leather-masked maniac is stalking and murdering members of the cast and crew in grand, depraved fashion – using a switchblade dildo. As Anne gets caught up in a strange investigation to capture the killer, she journeys deep into a dingy underworld and her life turns upside down. The tension mounts and the body fluids spray as the sadistic killer both inspires and terrorizes the increasingly unhinged filmmaker, leading to a shocking conclusion. Director Yann Gonzalez’s Knife + Heart is a violent, campy and sexy fever dream of retro ‘70s aesthetics brought to life with a pulsating score by M83 and gleeful references to the horror thrillers of De Palma, Argento and Friedkin. (Dir. by Yann Gonzalez, 2018, France/Mexico/Switzerland, in French and Spanish with English subtitles, 100 mins., Not Rated)
