“Maniac Cop is a lot of fun to watch. It zips along at such a frantic pace that you can’t help but enjoy yourself.” – Eat My Brains!
“You have the right to remain silent. Forever.” Tangling with a maniac is never easy, but when that maniac also has a badge, who’re you gonna call? In the deliciously trashy action/horror flick Maniac Cop, innocent people are being brutally killed on the streets of New York by a uniformed police officer. A young cop, Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell, in between Evil Dead gigs) finds himself marked as the chief suspect after his wife is murdered. As Lieutenant Frank McCrae (Tom Atkins, Night of the Creeps) investigates, the death toll rises, and he suspects a mysterious police cover-up. One thing’s for sure: this maniac cop must be stopped, but it might not be so easy. He seems inhuman, and ready to take on the entire police force, hell-bent on revenge, leading to a ridiculously explosive climax in which Bruce Campbell once again takes a licking and keeps on ticking! Written by genre master Larry Cohen (The Stuff, Q the Winged Serpent), and directed by William Lustig (Maniac), Maniac Cop will really put you away … forever! (Dir. by William Lustig, 1988, USA, 85mins., Rated R)
