The University of Arizona Latin American Studies Student Organization (LASSO) in collaboration with the Center for Latin American Studies invites you to a screening of Marcela Zamora’s film Maria en tierra de nadie (Maria in Nobody’s Land), a documentary film that follows a group of three Central American women who travel through Mexico to the United States border. Marcela Zamora is a Salvadoran filmmaker and journalist who has made the journey from El Salvador to the US-Mexico border with migrant women six times and has made 14 documentary films about gender and human rights. Following the showing of the film, Dr. Elizabeth Oglesby will moderate a panel with Marcela Zamora and community organizer Alejandra Pablos and Mariposas sin Fronteras’ Karolina Lopez to foster a conversation about marginalized experiences hidden in the discussion of migration and border violence. (Dir. by Marcela Zamora, 2011, Mexico/El Salvador/Guatemala, in Spanish with English subtitles, 86 mins., Not Rated)
