A lonely young girl named Mary is stuck in the country with her Great Aunt and seemingly no adventures or friends in sight, until she discovers a flower that grants her magical powers, but only for one night. Soon, Mary and her mysterious new cat companion are whisked away on a flying broomstick to Endor College, a school of magic, where danger lurks and Mary must risk her life to try and set things right. Based on Mary Stewart’s 1971 classic children’s book The Little Broomstick, this is a dazzling tale, filled with action and magic, of a young girl trying to find a place in the world. From Hirosama Yonebayashi, Oscar-nominated animator on such Studio Ghibli classics as Spirited Away and Ponyo, and featuring the voices of Ruby Barnhill, Kate Winslet and Jim Broadbent. (Dir. by Hirosama Yonebayashi, 2017, Japan, dubbed in English, 102 mins., Rated PG)
