Kick it with ASIAN ACTION MONTH at Mondo Mondays, and see where East meets West in a frenzy of mind-boggling B-movie lunacy!
“She sold her soul to possess the secrets of black magic!” Indonesian horror reaches new heights of WTF? lunacy in the crazed 1981 black magic freak-out, Mystics in Bali! Visiting Bali to research a book she’s writing, a young Australian woman named Cathy becomes embroiled in the black magic cult of Leák, and meets an evil (and endlessly cackling) shapeshifting witch who promises to train her in the dark arts. But this witch can’t be trusted (surprise!), and she tricks Cathy, transforming our intrepid overachieving heroine into a nasty Penangglan, a flying vampire head with internal organs hanging from her neck! Soon, Cathy is doing the witch’s evil bidding, and is up to her disembodied cranium in problems. Problems like vomiting up insects. Problems like turning into a wild boar monster. Problems like keeping her head on and her internal organs internal. Problems like flying into the night to steal unborn children from the wombs of unsuspecting mothers. And come to think of it, what’s her new boyfriend going to say about all of this? Truly gonzo, over-the-top wackiness and highly “interpretative” English dubbing guarantees your jaw will be stapled to the floor while watching Mystics in Bali, from the director of Lady Terminator! (Dir. by H. Tjut Djalil, 1981, Indonesia, dubbed in English, 86 mins., Rated R)
