This lively and provocative new documentary chronicles the life and times of internationally celebrated Korean-born artist Nam June Paik (1936-2006), a pillar of the American avante-garde in the 20th century. Often referred to as the “Father of Video Art,” Paik coined the term “Electronic Superhighway” long before the internet was omnipresent, and heavily influenced generations of artists in all genres. Featuring readings of the artist’s writing by executive producer Steven Yeun (Minari, Nope), the film uses archival footage and clips from the artist’s work to recount his collaborations and fascinations with such luminaries as David Bowie, Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, Charlotte Moorman, Joseph Beuys, Allen Ginsberg, Merce Cunningham and John Cage. (Dir. by Amanda Kim, 2023, USA, in English/German/Korean with English subtitles, 107 mins., Not Rated)
