Rematriation: A return to a spiritual way of life with respect for Mother Earth.

Join us for this special event in honor of International Day of Indigenous Women, organized by our Indigenous Film Committee! We will be screening the short documentary films, Run To Be Visible and Elite Heart: Callie Vinson, and we’ll have special performances by Danza Mexica Mexicayotl and the Hiapsi Vaisai Singers!

We will also have shoes to give away, courtesy of Rising Hearts, while supplies last!

RUN TO BE VISIBLE followed by a Q&A with Lydia Jennings
Lydia Jennings is a member of the Huichol (Wixaritari) and Pascua Yaqui (Yoeme) Nations and holds a doctorate in soil microbiology. Her work is dedicated to environmental science and the essential role of Indigenous communities in these spaces. Her hope is to create more inclusive academic and environmental landscapes.

In place of her graduation, which was cancelled as a result of the pandemic, Lydia instead celebrated by running 50 miles in honor of the Indigenous scientists and knowledge keepers who came before her. It’s a run to honor the past and present, while looking towards the future.
A Patagonia Film.

ELITE HEART: CALLIE VINSON
When a body challenged woman starts running, she enters a 100 mile race to help bring representation to a space lacking diversity and body positivity.

Elite Heart features Callie Vinson, who once weighed 377lbs and put her health first and is now training to compete in a 100 mile trail race while promoting body positivity, representation, accessibility, diversity and inclusivity. She will make her journey traversing Wasiw and Nisenan lands in the Western States Endurance Run 100 in June 2023 as a co-sponsored runner by Rising Hearts and GU Energy Labs. The kinship cultivated between Rising Hearts and GU Energy Labs is a shining example of what it takes to continue visual and creative opportunities that’s not just a check in the box or a one and done opportunity. The collaborative heart work is to create more accessible pathways for the next person to see themselves in these spaces and resonate with those whose stories we amplify.
