“Great entertainment: humorous, adventurous, inventive, and enthralling.” – John J. Puccio, Movie Metropolis
The Empire Ranch Foundation is proud to announce their 7th annual summer Western Movie at The Loft Cinema, Ride the High Country starring Joel McCrea and Randolph Scott. One of Sam Peckinpah’s first films, and one of the classic Western genre’s last films, Ride the High Country gives you its all: a haunting soundtrack, phenomenal actors, and beautiful cinematography that you won’t want to miss this on the big screen! Reduced to transporting gold from a distant mine to a small-town bank, retired lawman Steve Judd (Joel McCrea) recruits friend Gil Westrum (Randolph Scott), who has been performing in a traveling carnival, to help. Unknown to Steve, the restless Gil and a young drifter intend to steal the next gold transport. On the way, the men help Elsa Knudsen (Mariette Hartley) to break free from her zealot father and join her fiancé at the mine, not realizing the consequences that await them all. (Dir.by Sam Peckinpah, 1962, USA, 94 mins., Not Rated)
Before the movie, Wyatt McCrea, Joel McCrea’s grandson, and author of Joel McCrea, A Film History, will share some wonderful anecdotes about his grandfather!
The annual Western Movies at the Loft event supports the preservation of the Historic Empire Ranch on Las Cienegas National Conservation Area in Sonoita, Arizona. Sponsored by The Green Valley Pecan Company, Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch Resort and Strategic Issues Management Group.
