“A boisterous, brilliant, heart-warming comedy … strikes me as just about perfect.” – Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune

In the intoxicating, Oscar-winning Sideways, writer/director Alexander Payne (Nebraska) pours out a hilarious serving of comedy and drama infused with all the ups, downs and sideways journeys of life. A wine tasting road trip to salute womanizing TV star Jack’s (Thomas Haden Church) final days as a bachelor careens woefully off track as he and his failed writer pal, Miles (Paul Giamatti), hit the gas en route to their respective mid-life crises. The comically mismatched pair, who share little more than their history and a heady blend of failed potential and fading youth, soon find themselves drowning in wine and women. Emerging from a haze of Pinot noir, wistful yearnings and trepidation about the future, the two inevitably collide with reality and must finally learn how to grow up. Few film have so accurately and affectionately captured the ethos of friends, wine and the never-ending search for the perfect Pinot as Payne’s laugh-out-loud funny and surprisingly moving indie hit, which, like fine wine, just gets better with age.
