Acclaimed writer/director Harmony Korine (Gummo) hits the beach and turns spring break into an apocalyptic nightmare in the lurid, hilarious and highly subversive teen film Spring Breakers, starring a bevy of Disney starlets-gone-wild and James Franco as a corn-rowed, silver-grilled gangster/rapper named Alien!
“A lurid, luminous teen-bender movie, as ludicrous as it is stylish, and Harmony Korine’s best film in years.” – Simon Crook, Empire
Bored college girls Brit (Ashley Benson), Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Cotty (Rachel Korine) and Faith (Selena Gomez) live together in a boring dorm at a boring school in a boring small town. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun. Desperate for adventure, the girls decide to fund their getaway by robbing a fast food shack, and before you can say “Where’s My Beer Bong?,” they find themselves joining thousands of crazed, inebriated and very uninhibited college kids in the kind of wet-n-wild spring break debauchery they’ve only ever dreamed about. During a night of partying, the girls hit a roadblock when they are arrested on drug charges. Hung-over and clad only in day-glow bikinis, the girls appear before a judge but are bailed out unexpectedly by the infamous local thug and fledgling rapper known as Alien (James Franco), who takes them under his very sketchy wing and leads them on the wildest spring break vacation in history. (Dir. by Harmony Korine, 2013, USA, 92 mins., Rated R)
