After a chance encounter and whirlwind romance, Frida, a 40-year-old painting therapist, is stunned to find herself pregnant. When Felix, the skittish father-to-be, hears the news, he hightails it out of there and reunites with his ex. But Frida just sees this as a challenge to be conquered, and with the help of a teenage neighbor, she launches a full-scale, hilariously outlandish plan to get Felix back, for better or for worse. Director Laura Lehmus’ bold use of color, wild humor and magical realism, coupled with a winning comic performance by Friederike Kempter as Frida, makes Sweet Disaster a genuinely satisfying crowd-pleaser.
