Don’t miss Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, the first film in Park Chan-wook’s legendary “Vengeance Trilogy,” on the big screen in 35mm! And catch the new 20th anniversary 4K restoration of Park Chan-wook’s classic thriller, Oldboy (the second film in the trilogy), opening for a regular engagement at The Loft Cinema on Wednesday, August 16th!
Unable to afford proper care for his sister dying from kidney failure, Ryu (Shin Ha-kyun, Thirst) turns to the black market to sell his own organs, only to end up cheated of his life savings. His girlfriend (Bae Doona, Cloud Atlas) urges Ryu to kidnap the daughter of wealthy industrialist Dong-jin (Song Kang-ho, Parasite), who recently laid him off. Ryu agrees, but unforeseen tragedies turn an innocent con into a merciless quest for revenge. Acclaimed filmmaker Park Chan-wook’s riveting thriller, the first film in his thematically-linked “Vengeance Trilogy” (which also includes 2003’s Oldboy and 2005’s Lady Vengeance), is a brilliant mixture of extravagant violence, heartfelt sentiment and brooding noir atmosphere. (Dir. by Park Chan-wook, 2002, South Korea, in Korean with English subtitles, 129 mins., Rated R)
