“Fascinating … all cartoon fans should be able to find something to enjoy in the 2022 edition of The Animation Show of Shows.” – Simon Abrams, The Wrap
The celebrated animation showcase returns! The 22nd Annual Animation Show of Shows features ten short films – nine recent, along with one restored classic – from nine countries, all dealing with the hopes and anxieties of the world we live in today. All are inventive and imaginative, with tones ranging from the whimsical to the profound, and the stories are told through a dazzling array of animation styles from stop-motion to hand-drawn to computer-generated. This year’s program also features a striking 4K digital remaster of Frédéric Back’s 1987 Academy Award-winning short, The Man Who Planted Trees, narrated by Christopher Plummer.
This year’s program, in order of appearance:
• Beyond Noh – Patrick Smith/Kaori Ishida (U.S./Japan)
• Empty Places – Geoffroy de Crecy (France)
• Beseder (Good and Better) – Gil Alkabetz (Germany)
• Zoizoglyphe – Jeanne Apergis (France)
