The Alien Factor

Earthlings beware! It’s EVIL EXTRATERRESTRIALS MONTH at Mondo Mondays, featuring hordes of angry aliens out to enslave us all with their terrible movies!

“They brought terror from beyond our galaxy!” When a spaceship containing specimens for an intergalactic zoo crashes on Earth in a small backwoods town, things go from bad to worse as the freaky specimens escape and start mutilating the local rednecks in an all-out alien orgy of terror!

“A crazy amalgam of surprisingly high concept story, cheesy delivery and awesome aliens. It’s definitely bad, but it’s also charmingly good/bad.” – Cinapse

This very, very low-budget sci-fi feature, shot in lovely Baltimore, Maryland by first-time filmmaker Don Dohler (Galaxy Invader), using local “talent” as his stars, is a jaw-droppingly tacky sci-fi/horror epic that makes the cinema of Ed Wood look like high-falootin’ Oscar-bait. Thrill to the sight of confused actors stumbling over their lines, a hairy rock ‘n roll band entertaining a bar full of mean drunks, go-go dancers zonked out on valium, a monster that wears blue jeans, and a trio of hilariously low-rent aliens (including the reptile Leemoid, the gooey Inferbyce, and the furry Zagatile) terrorizing the locals, despite the fact that they all seem to be wearing rejected children’s Halloween costumes. Throw in some cool stop-motion animation and a general atmosphere of “wait, are we really making a movie here?” confusion, and you’ve got an amazing slice of ‘70s sci-fi something or other that feels like a home movie that was actually made by aliens from another world. (Dir. by Don Dohler, 1978, USA, 80 mins., Not Rated)
