“Deeply entertaining and profoundly moving, The Ghost of Peter Sellers offers a slice of forgotten movie history that, it turns out, is well worth remembering.” – Christopher Llewellyn Reed, Hammer to Nail
This entertaining, engrossing and highly personal documentary from celebrated British filmmaker Peter Medak (The Changeling, The Ruling Class) is a classic “I can’t believe this actually happened” take on the “movie within a movie” genre, with Medak documenting the rise and fall of his own failed 1973 comedy, Ghost in the Noonday Sun, starring (and sabotaged by) the legendary comedic genius, Peter Sellers. Plagued by bizarre behavior, on-set catastrophes and an off-kilter leading man, Medak’s big-budget, ill-fated (and theatrically unreleased) 17th century pirate movie spectacularly crashed and burned, almost destroying the director’s promising career in the process. Years later, Medak’s still haunted by the experience, reflecting on a disastrous production, his ever-lasting love for Sellers, co-writer Spike Milligan (Monty Python) and cinema at large.
