Surf’s up for BEACH BLANKET BLOODBATH Month at Mondo Mondays, featuring a bevy of beachy B-movies that will keep you screaming all summer long!
“The First Horror Monster Musical!” All the local teens are surfing and screaming when a gaggle of radioactive underwater monsters hit the beach and start chowing down on babes in bikinis and bros on boards in this infamous bad movie classic set to a totally boss surf rock beat! Shot in two weeks outside lovely Stamford, Connecticut, this low-budget wonder from local producer/director Tel Denny (often referred to as “Connecticut’s own Ed Wood”) somehow managed to combine Beach Blanket Bingo with Attack of the Crab Monsters, and the world would never be the same. When nuclear waste dumped into the ocean mutates a shipwreck full of corpses, it will unleash an onslaught of bikini teems, surprising gore, dubious science, wild dancing, slumber parties, an intrepid maid, surf rock band The Del-Aires (who provide such unforgettable tunes as “Wigglin’ Wobblin’” and “The Zombie Stomp”), and some of the goofiest-looking monsters in horror movie history. Surf’s up, you’re dead! (Dir. by Del Tenny, 1964, USA, 78 mins. Not Rated)
