The Last Unicorn

Based on the classic novel by Peter S. Beagle, this animated fantasy tale spins the story of a lone unicorn and her search for others like herself.  In The Last Unicorn, the villainous King Haggard (Christopher Lee) plots to destroy all the world’s unicorns.

The Last Unicorn is an unusual children’s film in many respects, the chief one being that it is unusually good.” – Janet Maslin, New York Times

When a young unicorn (Mia Farrow) learns that she’s in danger and that she may soon be the last of her kind, she leaves the safety of her protected forest and enlists the help of Schmendrick (Alan Arkin), a gentle, albeit clumsy, sorcerer. Together, they embark on a fantastic journey where they meet a cast of odd and delightful characters, as well as dangers they never imagined, in pursuit of their seemingly impossible goal: to defeat Haggard and save the unicorns from extinction. Filled with music, magic and a genuine sense of wonder, The Last Unicorn is a beloved classic for all ages. (Dir. by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr., 1982, USA, 92 mins., Rated G)
