The Sacrament

The chilling new film from acclaimed writer/director Ti West (The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers) and producer Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) follows a Vice Media news team into the heart of darkness as they investigate a utopian, messianic commune with terrifying results. In The Sacrament, two Vice Media correspondents embark on an adventure to document their friend’s journey to reunite with his estranged sister. They track her to an undisclosed location where they are welcomed into the remote world of “Eden Parish,” a self-sustained rural utopia composed of nearly two hundred members and overseen by a mysterious leader known only as “Father.” While they are initially inspired by the community, it soon becomes evident that something is rotten in paradise. As their one night in the parish turns to days, the visitors realize that Eden Parish harbors a darkly twisted secret, and what started as just another documentary shoot soon becomes a nightmarish fight for escape and survival. In The Sacrament, as in his previous fright flicks like The House of the Devil, writer/director Ti West masterfully orchestrates an atmosphere of slow-burning suspense and dread that eventually explodes into a frenzy of shocking, seat-jumping horror. Inspired by the infamous real-life events of the 1978 Jonestown Massacre, The Sacrament is an unforgettably unsettling thriller that produces chills long after the final credits have rolled.
