Celebrate the life and career of the incredible Tina Turner at a special 30th anniversary screening of the 1993 biopic, What’s Love Got to Do with It, starring Angela Bassett in her Oscar-nominated role as Tina Turner! Presented in 35mm!
Based on the life of the legendary performer, What’s Love Got to Do with It stars Oscar-nominee Angela Bassett as Tina Turner – born Anna Mae Bullock – who discovers her love of singing in her Tennessee church choir. She moves to St. Louis to pursue a career, and there she meets the charismatic Ike Turner (Laurence Fishburne, also Oscar-nominated), who rechristens her Tina and offers to help her succeed. As a musical team, Ike and Tina take the charts by storm. But as his physical abuse worsens over the years, Tina must discover her inner strength and make the tough decision to leave Ike and set out on her own, paving the way for her incredible comeback as a successful solo artist in the ‘80s and her new role as a powerful feminist icon who shattered barriers and conquered the world. Adapted from Tina Turner’s bestselling 1986 autobiography, I, Tina: My Life Story. (Dir. by Brian Gibson, 1993, USA, 118 mins., Rated R)
