Starting on Friday, March 26th, The Loft’s Open Air Cinema is getting a big upgrade! All Open Air Cinema film sound will be transmitted via FM broadcast and delivered to individual FM receivers, which will be provided to customers. Earphones will be available for purchase for $1 at each screening, but we recommend that you bring your own WIRED earphones or headphones to maximize your viewing experience. (Note: airpods, bluetooth, and other wireless headphones are NOT compatible with our system.)

FAQ

Will we be able to hear the film without FM receivers?

No. Sound will be broadcast only to the FM receivers. This will improve the quality of the sound and will also help us be more neighborly to the folks who live around us.

Will my AirPods or Bluetooth headphones work with these receivers?

No. The receivers have standard 3.5mm headphone jacks that will work with most wired headphones. You can purchase a third party Bluetooth dongle to interact, but our staff will not be able to help troubleshoot these devices.

Can I use an app on my phone to pick up the signal?

Maybe! iPhones do not have actual FM capabilities (some apps pick up internet radio stations but that won’t work with our signal), but some android phones do. Staff will not be able to troubleshoot smartphone apps but you’re welcome to try this!

What if I don’t bring my headphones with me?

We have earphones for sale for $1; you can buy them once and bring them back to each Open Air Cinema screening if you want!

Are the FM receivers sanitized between uses?

Yes, staff will be sanitizing the receivers after each use.

How do I pick up my FM receiver?

It will be waiting for you at your seat!

How do I turn my receiver on?

There will be an instructional slide on-screen before the movie, and volunteers and staff will be able to help if you have any questions!

Can I buy my own receiver instead?

Yes! We provide Retekess PR13 units, which you can purchase here.
