The glorious and forbidding Moroccan desert provides the backdrop for this extraordinary psychological journey, a sensory experience of sheer cinematic audacity. A father (Sergi López, Pan’s Labyrinth) and his son arrive at a rave deep in the mountains of southern Morocco. They are searching for Mar — daughter and sister — who vanished months ago at one of these endless, sleepless parties. Surrounded by electronic music and a raw, unfamiliar sense of freedom, they hand out her photo again and again. Hope is fading, but they push through and follow a group of ravers heading to one last party in the desert. As they venture deeper into the burning wilderness, the journey forces them to confront their own limits. Even beyond the pulsing techno soundtrack and the majestic desolation of the landscape, Sirat creates a sensory experience of audacity and shock that touches the sublime. Joint winner of the Jury Prize at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. (Dir. by Oliver Lax, 2025, Spain/France, in Spanish/French/English/Arabic with English subtitles, 114 mins., Rated R)
