Evil has never been more ridiculous than it is during EVIL IS AS EVIL DOES Month, featuring a Mondo-style celebration of all that’s, you know … evil!
“Who’s Smoking Who?” In this engrossing, searing, existential drama filled with pathos, emotion and philosophical depth (well, not exactly …), straight-laced nerd Alistair moves into a college dorm with super stoners Brett, Larnell, and Bachman. The baked bros acquire a large vintage bong that proves to have magical powers, and when smoked, the sentient, malevolent bong traps the smoker in Bong World, a surreal, drugged-out, low-budget realm filled with killer strippers and trippy puppet monsters, a world from which there is no easy escape. Who can save our hazy heroes? How about cannabis culture icon Tommy Chong as Jimbo Leary, the evil bong’s original owner, who shows up out of nowhere to make things right? While you may not get a serious and sincere exploration into the world of substance abuse and its impact on the human psyche, you WILL get to see Chong chainsaw fighting a talking killer bong, so there’s that. A ridiculous high-concept, low-brow horror/comedy from director Charles Band (the mastermind behind Full Moon Features, home to the Puppetmaster and Gingerdead Man franchises, among many others), Evil Bong spawned numerous sequels and set a very “high” bar for any future films featuring sentient bongs with evil intentions. (Dir. by Charles Band, 2006, USA, 86 mins., Not Rated)
