It’s “Eat or Be Eaten” when The Loft Cinema presents a night of barbequed body parts and brain munching horror at a terrifyingly tasty Halloween Double Feature of Tobe Hooper’s iconic 1974 cannibal classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Dan O’Bannon’s 1985 punk rock zombie screamer The Return of the Living Dead!  Spooky prizes for best costumes, and free Halloween candy for everyone, while supplies last.  Will you survive, and what will be left of you???

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The family that slays together stays together in this all-time terror classic that asked the burning question, “Who Will Survive, and What Will Be Left of Them?”  In 1974, writer/producer/director Tobe Hooper unleashed the low-budget scream-fest The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a nightmarish tale about a group of five young friends who decide to visit their late grandfather’s abandoned farmhouse in rural Texas, only to be hunted and terrorized by a chainsaw-wielding lunatic named Leatherface and his depraved family of grave-robbing, slaughterhouse-owning, barbeque-loving cannibals! Gritty, gruesome and downright terrifying (with plenty of nasty, pitch black humor to help fortify the scares), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remains unequaled as a landmark of outlaw filmmaking and unparalleled in its impact as one of the most frightening motion picture ever made, going on to spawn sequels, prequels, remakes, comic books and even a video game.  (Dir. by Tobe Hooper, 1974, USA, 83 mins., Rated R)

The Return of the Living Dead
“They’re back from grave and ready to party!” Zombies and Punks are two great tastes that taste great together, and things get even tastier when human brains are on the menu! Teen punk Freddy sure likes to party with his punk pals, but on his first day of work at an army surplus store, he unwittingly releases a cloud of toxic nerve gas from a secret U.S. military canister, and before you know it, he’s partying his head off with hordes of reanimated corpses that only have one thing on their mushy minds – to chow down on an all-you-can-eat human brain buffet! And luckily for these carnivorous cadavers, Freddy’s hard-rocking friends are partying at a nearby cemetery, just waiting to be eaten! This outrageously entertaining horror comedy (one that’s actually scary AND funny), directed by Alien screenwriter Dan O’Bannon, turned the worn-out zombie genre upside down with its dark humor and rivers of gore, and features a stellar B-movie cast including James Karen, Clu Gulager and ’80 Scream Queen Linnea Quigley as a grave-dancing punk named Trash. With a butt-kicking soundtrack by The Cramps, 45 Grave and The Damned, The Return of the Living Dead is a fun and splattery smorgasbord of terror with more than enough BRAINS to go around! (Dir. by Dan O’Bannon, 1986, USA, 91 mins., Rated R)
