Join us in celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Historic Empire Ranch with a special screening commemorating the 50th Anniversary of A Star is Born, starring Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson and written by John Gregory Dunne and Joan Didion.
The Empire Ranch was established in Sonoita, AZ in 1876, and was one of the largest cattle ranches in the state. Today, the historic ranch headquarters still stands in the middle of the 45,000-acre Las Cienega National Conservation Area and is open to the public to explore. Over 52 movies and television shows were filmed on or around the ranch between 1946 to 1996, including A Star is Born in 1976. The Desert Honeymoon House from the movie was located just south of the headquarters off Highway 82, and many scenes were shot in the Sonita/Elgin area. Local fans of this movie will recognize the TCC, Linda Ronstadt Music Hall, and Pima County Courthouse downtown as well.
The Empire Ranch Foundation is hosting a fundraising VIP Reception before the movie. VIP tickets include one beer/wine/soft drink, small bites, movie memorabilia raffle, and a behind-the-scenes Making of the Movie presentation by actor/stuntman Steve “Bunker” de France, who was Kris Kristofferson’s stand-in, and Author and Film Historian Gene Freese.
