“She’s too much for any man!” In this all-time ‘50s kitsch classic of epic proportions, Nancy Archer (Allison Hayes) is an affluent California housewife with a rat for a husband and a bit of a booze problem. She’s recently been released from a mental institution, and while she was away, her philandering hubbie Harry (William Hudson) has been at play, putting the moves on the town “bad girl,” Honey Parker (Yvette Vickers, Playboy’s Miss July 1959), and scheming about the day when they can get rid of Nancy and claim her fortune as their own. But Nancy is about to give everyone a BIG surprise after she encounters a stranded alien on a lonely desert highway and is zapped by its “growth ray” – a close encounter of the weird kind that sends her body into bad movie overdrive. Soon, Nancy’s size matches her rage, and the beauteous behemoth sets out to exact revenge on those who have wronged her, even if she has to wreck an entire town to do it. Decked out in a massive bedsheet bikini and a still-stylish hairdo, the 50ft. Woman is about to prove that big girls don’t cry … they get even! A legendarily hilarious slice of low-budget sci-fi camp, Attack of the 50ft. Woman is one of the most unforgettable artifacts of the 1950s – a bizarre blend of subpar special effects, alien anxiety, and feminist subtext that must be seen by any self-respecting bad movie fan! (Dir. by Nathan Hertz, 1958, USA, 70 mins., Not Rated)
