Before I Get Sillier is a memoir by Alex Edwards of his mother Colleen Combs – a woman whose life has been shaped by reinvention, resilience, and an evolving sense of what matters.
After a sudden medical crisis in her fifties left her with memory loss and a rare neurological condition, Colleen was forced to relearn her own life while continuing to live it. The film follows how she makes sense of her world now – through fragments of memory, daily routines, and a determination to remain independent as uncertainty has become part of everyday life.
What begins as a way for Alex to document his mom’s story becomes something more: an attempt to understand a life that extends far beyond his perspective, and one that continues to shift in ways neither of them can fully predict.
It’s a film about memory, identity, and the persistent ways people hold onto themselves as everything changes. (Dir. by Alexander Edwards, 2026, USA, 42 mins., Not Rated)
