Everyone’s chillin’ and killin’ during WINTER KILLS MONTH at Mondo Mondays, featuring a B-movie blizzard of cold weather scare flicks guaranteed to put you on ice!
“Behind every curtain, someone is waiting … something is watching.” Show business can be murder as six young actresses auditioning for a movie role at a secluded, snowed-in mansion are targeted by a mysterious masked killer in this weirdo 1983 cold weather Canadian shocker! In Curtains, a sleazoid filmmaker named Jonathan Stryker (John Vernon, Killer Klowns from Outer Space; Animal House) invites a group of actresses (each with a distinctive skill: ballerina, ice skater, comedian, etc.) to his remote mansion to vie for the lead role in his latest picture, but soon the silver screen turns into the silver “scream” as the women are terrorized by a psycho killer wearing a distorted hag mask (truly one of the freakiest slasher masks ever) in a series of increasingly bizarre set pieces (the infamous ice skating murder scene is truly the stuff of B-movie nightmares). The murderer must be one of them, but whodunit? Also starring Samantha Eggar (The Brood) as an actress who escapes from a mental hospital for her audition, Sandee Currie (Terror Train) and Lynne Griffin (Black Christmas), Curtains is an unsung, frost-covered gem from the golden age of ‘80s Canadian slasher flicks! (Dir. by Richard Ciupka, 1983, Canada, 89 mins., Rated R)
