It’s double trouble when the legendary Bette Davis plays twins and murder is on the menu in the gripping 1964 psychological thriller, Dead Ringer! Davis stars in a dual role as a pair of evil twins – a jealous, working-class murderer and her widowed socialite sister, her Dead Ringer. Twenty years ago, twins Edith and Margaret Phillips both loved the same handsome, wealthy man. Margaret won the competition when she falsely claimed to be pregnant. Now, the downtrodden Edith, envious of her recently widowed sister’s high-class life and vast wealth, murders Margaret and assumes her identity. But can she play the role well enough to fool suspicious police sergeant Hobbson (Oscar-winner Karl Malden, On the Waterfront) and handsome, gold-digging playboy Tony Collins (Peter Lawford, Ocean’s 11)? The suspense mounts and the twists and turns become ever more perilous as Edith must go to extremes to convince the world that she is indeed her own Dead Ringer! Based on the story “La Otra” (aka “Dead Pigeon”) by Rian James, and featuring a full-tilt dual performance by the incredible Bette Davis (who had previously played twins in the 1946 melodrama, A Stolen Life), Dead Ringer is a fun and frightening thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end! (Dir. by Paul Henreid, 1964, USA,115 mins., Not Rated)
