It’s summertime, and the screamin’ is easy, so it’s time to pack up your sleeping bag for STAY OUT OF THE WOODS month at Mondo Mondays, featuring a forest-full of aliens, maniacs, and angry animals that are just dying to invite you into their treehouse of terror!
“For some, a simple warning is never enough.” In this ultra-low-budget oddity from director James Bryan (The Executioner: Part Two), a group of obnoxious campers venture deep into the mountains of Utah for what they assume will be a fun-filled weekend. But within the woods lurks a deranged maniac, watching their every move and causing murderous trouble. But who … or what … is it? The lazy local sheriff blames bears. But the escalating body count seems to point to a human killer. Ignoring the warning signs, the campers remain in the woods … alone … awaiting their fate as the maniac paints the mountains red with camper blood! Sleazy, entertaining and unintentionally hilarious, filled with buckets of low-fi gore effects and weird black humor, Don’t Go in the Woods … Alone is a wacko mash-up of Friday the 13th and Deliverance, and one of the quintessential regional slasher flicks (filmed in beautiful Utah) of the early ‘80s horror boom, ending up on the infamous list of banned “Video Nasties” in the UK. (Dir. by James Bryan, 1981, USA, 82 mins., Rated R)
