In this road-trip movie that explores family fractures and intergenerational differences, Daniel, a first-generation American, gets kicked out of high school for fighting. His tightly-wound mother Layla (Lubna Azabal, Incendies), an Arabic professor originally from Beirut, decides to drive across the US to take her son to live with his father in California. Their journey is full of eccentric characters including a Colorado hot springs fanatic (Dale Dickey).
