The price is right and you may die of fright during ATTENTION SHOPPERS … YOU’RE DEAD! Month, featuring a fully-stocked selection of horror flicks set in the terrifying world of retail!
“He’s Crazy About This Store!” In this ultra-gory grocery store slasher flick, it’s 10pm and the employees of Michigan’s Walnut Lake Supermarket are in for a really bad night, because tonight, this store is having a killer sale … all heads half-off! The place is almost out of business and is preparing to shut its doors for good, and the night crew has a long shift of after-hours restocking ahead of them … longer than they think! One of the cashiers, Jennifer (Elizabeth Cox, The Wraith, Night of the Creeps), is visited by her seemingly deranged ex-boyfriend, Craig, who’s out on parole. Her co-workers come to her rescue, but Craig gets away before the police arrive. The crew gets back to work, but soon the phone lines are cut, the doors are locked, and the employees start getting bumped off in the most gruesome ways imaginable. Who’s the killer? Could it be Craig? Or could it be someone, or someTHING, else? A wild and wooly horror hoot that takes full ADVANTAGE of its “trapped in a grocery store“ setting (prepare for lots of stomach-churning supermarket-themed novelty murders … just guess what that nasty automatic cardboard box crusher might do to someone’s head!), and some surprisingly stylish camerawork, Intruder is a high point of the tail-end of the Golden Era of the ‘80s slasher flick, produced by Lawrence Bender (producer of Pulp Fiction and other Tarantino flicks) and directed by Evil Dead 2 co-writer Scott Spiegel, who brought his Evil Dead buddies – director Sam Raimi (playing Randy the Butcher), Ted Raimi (as Produce Joe), and Ash himself, Bruce Campbell, in a cameo appearance – to the party. We’re REALLY gonna need a clean-up on Aisle 8! (Dir. by Scott Spiegel, 1989, USA, 88 mins., Rated R)
