This St. Patrick’s Day, The Loft Cinema is unleashing a four-leaf clover of fear as a pre-Friends Jennifer Aniston battles the ultimate gold-loving maniac in the original 1993 horror/comedy classic, Leprechaun!Featuring green beer at the snack bar, Lucky Charms for your popcorn, and a Leprechaun treasure hunt!
“Try as they will, and try as they might, who steals me gold won’t live through the night!” Nothing says “Happy St. Patrick’s Day!” more perfectly than a greedy, murderous, wise-cracking creature in pilgrim shoes searching for his gold and terrorizing Jennifer Aniston (the year before Friends made her America’s TV sweetheart) in the wacky B-movie extravaganza, Leprechaun! When a sadistic, evil Leprechaun (Willow’s Warwick Davis) is released from basement imprisonment, he unleashes a murderous maelstrom of green-tinted black magic as he searches for his beloved pot of gold, throws around Freddy Krueger-esque quips, and generally makes life miserable for a farm-dwelling family (including Aniston as a plucky, denim-loving teenager) who are definitely not feeling the luck of the Irish! Goofy, gory and theoretically-but-not-exactly terrifying, Leprechaun spawned a never-ending film franchise (once that variously sent the Leprechaun to Las Vegas, the Hood, and even into outer space!) and remains a strangely enduring (and endearing) artifact of the ‘90s pop culture wasteland. Also featuring “Francis” from Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure as an ill-fated house painter. (Dir. by Mark Jones, 1993, USA, 92 mins., Rated R)
