Join us on Sunday, June 28 at 4:00pm for a screening of Persepolis (2007) in honor of Marjane Satrapi’s life and work.
Based on her graphic memoir, the film follows Satrapi’s coming-of-age through the Islamic Revolution – watching her communist family’s dream of overthrowing the Shah give way to a new repressive tyranny under Islamic fundamentalism. As the Iran-Iraq war rages and family members are detained and executed, Marji refuses to stay silent. Her parents send her to Vienna, where she finds herself adrift between cultures. When she returns home, both she and Iran have changed beyond recognition. (Dir. by Vincent Paronnaud & Marjane Satrapi, 2007, France/USA, In French & Persian with English subtitles, Rated PG-13)
Before the screening, Tucson Democratic Socialists of America chapter Co-Chair Liz, Comms Coordinator Noah, and a member of the Loft Cinema will lead a short welcome session celebrating Satrapi’s legacy.
This is a Community Rental by the Tucson Democratic Socialists of America.
