Working class Andie (Molly Ringwald) is a social outcast with eyes for popular rich kid Blane (Andrew McCarthy), but these star-crossed teens are from opposite sides of the tracks, and in the rigid high school hierarchy, they might as well be from different planets. Andie’s dad (Harry Dean Stanton), tries to help her navigate her feelings, and her older friend Iona (Annie Potts),who owns Trax, the cool record store where she works, tries to pass along her dating wisdom (along with her wild fashions sense). But with the senior prom fast approaching, can Andie and Blane’s rocky romance survive the unrequited crush of Andie’s quirky best pal Duckie (Jon Cryer) as well as pressure from Blane’s uptight clique of wealthy pals, led by preppie jerk supreme Steff (James Spader)? And most importantly, will Andie make it to the prom and show the world that she’s totally Pretty in Pink? Written for maximum teen angst awesomeness by ’80 teen movie king John Hughes, and rocking to a killer soundtrack featuring New Order, Echo & the Bunnymen, and The Psychedelic Furs, Pretty in Pink is a generation-defining classic that never goes out of style. (Dir. by Howard Deutch, 1986, USA, 97 mins., Rated PG-13)
