Starring Oscar winner Javier Bardem and Victoria Luengo, the latest from Rodrigo Sorogoyen chronicles an unnerving collaboration between a charismatic, manipulative director and the actor daughter he hasn’t seen in 13 years. At lunch in a Madrid restaurant, Esteban (Bardem) offers his daughter, a struggling actor, the lead role in a film set in a historical drama set in the Sahara desert about the Sahrawi uprising against their Spanish colonizers. The Beloved examines what happens when dysfunctional family dynamics fuse with artistic hubris.
Directed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, 2026, Spain, in Spanish with English subtitles, 135 minutes, NR
