Countess Elizabeth Báthory of Ecsed was a Hungarian noblewoman and alleged serial killer, who owned land in the Kingdom of Hungary. Director Ulrike Ottinger turns Báthory’s story into a campy, blood-soaked vampire comedy starring none other than a blood-soaked Isabel Huppert!
Countess Báthory wakes from her beauty sleep and surfaces in Vienna. With her maid, she seeks a vital red elixir while evading her nephew, his therapist, vampirologists, and police pursuing a book that endangers vampires, with glorious costumes, cinematography and music.
Directed by Ulrike Ottinger, 2026, Austria/Germany, in German, French and Russian with English subtitles, 118 minutes, NR
