Special Documentary Screening & Filmmaker Q&A!
In Iran, the simple pursuit of education comes at an extraordinary cost.
The Forbidden University tells the remarkable true story of Iran’s underground Bahá’í university, where students and professors risk arrest and imprisonment to preserve the fundamental right to learn.
Written and directed by Iranian-Canadian filmmaker Nauzanin Knight and produced by Mitra Knight, this powerful feature documentary is executive produced by acclaimed actor Penn Badgley. Featuring striking visual effects by Oscar-nominated artist Habib Zargarpour and dramatic performances by Parham Rownaghi, Ava Maria Safai, Anthony Azizi, Sepideh Yadegar and Mohammadali Beheshti, the film brings an extraordinary story of courage, resilience and hope to the screen.
Join us at Tucson’s iconic Loft Cinema for a special screening followed by a live filmmaker Q&A exploring the story behind the film, the ongoing persecution of Bahá’ís in Iran and the universal right to education. (Dir. by Nauzanin Knight, 2025, Canada/USA, In English and Farsi with English subtitles, 81 mins.)
This is a Community Rental presented by Baha’is of Greater Tucson Communities in Collaboration with U of A.
