“So you think you’re lucky to be alive …” The hills are alive once again with the sound of screaming in Wes Craven’s entertainingly wacky, notoriously confusing follow-up to his 1977 classic, The Hills Have Eyes. A motorcross team on their way to test out a new super-fuel head into the desert led by Rachel, who, unbeknownst to the rest of the group, is a survivor of the cannibal clan that menaced the white-bread Carter family several years earlier in the original movie. Opting to take an ill-advised shortcut across the desert, the busload of young bikers drives straight into the path of the remnants of Rachel’s demented cannibal kin – the menacing Pluto (Michael Berryman, returning from the original), and a hulking, potato-faced, blood-hungry brute by the name of The Reaper, leading to a wild B-movie fight for survival involving deadly booby traps, dry desert conditions, and lots of screaming. Made by Wes Craven immediately prior to his smash-hit A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 throws out the grim terror tone of its predecessor in favor of fun action/horrors thrills and spills replete with mutants, motorbikes, and – oh yes – dog flashbacks!
