The Who’s phantasmagoric, kaleidoscopic rock opera is brought thrillingly to life by acclaimed director Ken Russell (The Devils). Told entirely through the music of The Who, Tommy is the story of six-year-old Tommy, who witnesses the murder of his father by his mother (an Oscar-nominated Ann-Margret) and her lover (Oliver Reed). They command him, “You didn’t hear it, you didn’t see it, and you won’t say anything to anyone …”  As the result, the traumatized boy retreats into the shadows of his mind and becomes blind, deaf, and mute. Growing into manhood, Tommy (Roger Daltrey) is subjected to various bizarre cure attempts by the Acid Queen (Tina Turner), the Preacher (Eric Clapton), and the Specialist (Jack Nicholson).   Defying the odds, Tommy battles the Pinball Wizard (Elton John) to become the pinball champ, garnering a devoted cult following and being hailed by his fans as a “Messiah.” (Dir. by Ken Russell, 1975, UK, 101 mins., Rated PG)
